The Georgia Tech Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA) held their annual GT2 Symposium Program during March 2007 in Atlanta, GA at the Georgia Tech Student Success Center. Multidisciplinary research and multiculturalism were the major themes of the GT2 Symposium. The conference participants came nationwide from higher education and leading universities. The purpose of the symposium is to create a supportive atmosphere where technical graduate students can inform the public concerning their field of graduate study. Other portions of the symposium include collegial competitions for self-improving presentation skills.
MPI President, Irving Fordham participated in a professional workshop that was sponsored by the Graduate Engineering and Science Fellowships for Minorities (GEM). on entrepreneurship. The panel discussion was entitled "Expanding Research through Entrepreneurship and Consulting". Graduate students received great advice and counsel from their predecessors and peers. Pearls of wisdoms were dispatched from current professors and researchers about avoiding career traps and pitfalls.
Dr. Mulalo Doyoyo is an eminent researcher and professor at Georgia Tech. His work on ultra-lightweight material systems has resulted in several major breakthroughs especially in the automotive field. An avid conservationist, Dr. Doyoyo was born and reared in the prestine northern portion of South Africa. He previously has taught at Brown University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Dr. Johnny Green, group leader at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Knoxville, Tenn. was an inspirational luncheon speaker. Dr. Green graduated magna cum laude in 1992 from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical enginering. He received his Masters and Ph. D. degrees in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech in 1993 and 2000 respectively. The recepient of numerous presstigious awards, Dr, Green provided encouraging words to the audience concerning pursuing advance degrees within technical fields.
The panel of judges came from academia.
James Rogers, The Diversity Coach You would be making an erroneous assumption if you thought that this program was exclusively for African-American graduate students. To the contrary, these ambitious and focused pioneers embrace cultural diversity. Participants came from leading colleges and universities from across the nation.
GT2 Symposium Closing Banquet 2007 Program Mr. James "Jim" Rogers is President of J.O. Rogers & Associates, Inc., a management consulting company. Jim has writen and spoken extensively concerning maximizing human resources within multicultural environments. He coaches and advises corporate executives, senior leaders, entrepreneurs, managers, and business professionals. His firm practices internationally and nationally but is currently based in Atlanta, Ga.
